Established in 2015, the Scott D. & Rochelle Morris Matinee Fund supports the Merryman Performing Arts Center to annually present diverse local, regional, and nationally touring performances of theatre, music and dance for Kearney area K-12 students. In addition, these funds help support the opportunities for children and their parents and grandparents to attend family and youth-oriented performances by providing reduced price tickets.

LightWire, a performing arts company combining puppetry, dance, and electroluminescence, continues Aesop’s classic fable of the The Tortoise and the Hare 10 years down the road, now with children of their own and exploring modern day distractions. The Next Gen features Tortoise Junior and Lil’ Hare in a whole new kind of race; where their adventures lead them into unexpected territory. Old man Tortoise and Big Daddy Hare must come together despite their differences to find and save their children. What hurdles will they have to overcome to make it to the finish line?

“Cows that type? Hens on strike! Whoever heard of such a thing!” Farmer Brown cries. When his granddaughter Jenny comes for a visit, Farmer Brown declares the farm a tech-free zone. He takes her laptop in the cold barn with the shivering cows who use her computer to type messages requesting blankets. “No way,” replies Farmer Brown. “No blankets!” So the cows go on strike and the chickens join them in solidarity. No blankets? No milk! No eggs! Will Farmer Brown give in to the animals’ demands? Will Jenny get her computer back? Find out in a hilariously moving musical about negotiation and compromise, based on the Caldecott Honor Book by Doreen Cronin and Betsy Lewin.
